Does my child need rugby experience?

Is rugby safe?

Player safety is a priority in everything we do. Our coaches focus on proper technique, age-appropriate development, and creating safe environments where players can learn and enjoy the game. All coaches are fully USA Rugby Certified

Which program is right for my child?

Accepted Answer

From January through to May, you would join a local program that competes in the Rugby Illinois Championship. If you are local to Naperville and the surrounding areas, you would join either the Explorers – K-4; Crusaders – 5-8; and Warriors – 9-12. If you are further afield, please contact us and we can help you find your local club.

For the fall season, regardless of the local team you play for, you can join our Academy program, which operates in September to November, and is open for players in grades K-6 Grade (Junior Academy) and 7-12 (Fortivus Academy). These Academy programs are designed for players from across Illinois to join.

Do I have to live in Naperville?

No. However, Explorers, Crusaders, and Warriors are based in Naperville. If travel is not practical, we are happy to help connect you with another rugby club closer to home. The Academy is specifically designed for players from across Illinois and is based in a central and accessible location for everyone to have ease of access.

Can my child participate in the Explorers, Crusaders or Warriors, and also join the Academy?

Yes. Over 50% of players participating in the Explorers, Crusaders or Warriors join the Academy. The Academy also includes players from a large numbers of clubs from across Illinois, making it truly a development academy that brings players together.

Is the Academy only for Explorers, Crusaders and Warriors players?

No. The Academy is specifically designed and open to players from all clubs and all rugby backgrounds.

How much does it cost?

Our fees are based on providing the lowest achievable fees and are there to solely cover our costs. Everything at Fortivus Rugby is based on grassroots development. For all program fees, please click on the appropriate local program (Explorers, Crusaders or Warriors), or Pathway Programs (Junior Academy or Fortivus Academy).

Do I have to buy any kit?

All kit is provided through our partner at Tytan Rugby. The mandatory kit purchase includes rugby shorts, rugby socks, and rugby hoodie. Additional kit such as bags, joggers, etc are available to purchase but are not mandatory in order to reduce cost burden on families. For the 2027 season, we have updated all of our apparel which we aim to keep in place for a minimum of four years to avoid mandatory upgrades of kit. Note that all kit takes a minimum of 4 weeks from order so please order in advance to ensure that it arrives in time.
